What is vpn and why do I need it

Rinus Reuvekamp

VPN meaning Virtual Private network helps create a secure connection to another network online. VPN helps you create a virtual encrypted tunnel between you and the remote server that is being operated by the Virtual Private network you use. In summary, a VPN masks your identity and location to give your computer a different IP address VPN helps forward your network traffic to the network and offers you unlimited benefits which include but are not limited to bypassing censorship and accessing local network resource remotely.

What is a vpn

A VPN helps you connect your tablet, smartphone or PC to another server somewhere online and allows you to surf the internet using the connection on the anonymous computer. If you are connected to a computer from a different location, you will appear like someone browsing from such location. It gives you access to what you cannot do normally.

Why you need a vpn

Using a VPN automatically changes your IP address which means with a VPN you will be browsing the internet from an anonymous location.
The two technical results of using a VPN include

  1. Cloaking and encrypting your signal to make your online activity private
  2. Manipulating of your IP address to make you appear from a different country.

Here are the reasons why you need VPN:

  1. VPN helps you access your business network while traveling: Business travelers need VPN to access their business network and local network resource while away from work. VPN does not expose the local resource and increases security.
  2. Your searches are not logged in to search engines: You must be aware that Google, Bing and other search engines catalogs every web search you perform. This means every search you make online will be attached to your IP address and will determine what you can do online. Cataloging web searches is detrimental because it can lead to social faux pas and future public embarrassment.
  3. VPN helps you gain access to Geo-blocked websites: VPN allows you to access your Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora while outside the states. It does this by changing your IP address to the IP address of a computer in the United States and grants you access.
  4. VPN allows you to use public or hotel Wi-Fi with confidence: It?s an undisputed fact that hotel and public Wi-Fi are unsafe because your signal can eavesdrop. Connecting to a personal VPN using the public or hotel Wi-Fi changes your IP Address and encrypts your web use from prying eyes.
  5. You need VPN to break out of the restrictive network at your school or workplace: There is always ?acceptable use? policy for browsing the web in school or at work. Most school and companies restrict students and employees from accessing some social media page etc. A VPN will help you tunnel out the restrictive network and connect to the restricted websites.
  6. VPN will help you cloak your VOIP phone calls: Internet telephoning (skype and the rest) is very easy to hack but using VPN helps secure your personal privacy.
  7. VPNs are made for you; make the best use of the VPN.
