What is a Spider Bot?

One of the basic terms in SEO and which you have probably heard about is the Spider Bot. But what is this really and how does it work? Next, we explain in more detail how Spider bots work and how pages are indexed without human intervention. 

The spider bot is an algorithm designed by the search engine to track and index sites. The purpose is to create an index of content on the Internet. Once the spider bot visits your website, the results are placed in the search engine index. The faster and better the process of crawling within the page, the higher in search engines can be found.

How does Spider Bot Work?

Tracking means following a path and in the world of SEO, it means following the links that appear on your website. Therefore, the site's maps are necessary, since they contain all the links of the site, being used by the spider bot to explore in detail and without getting lost.

Every day, thousands of websites are created and published, while many more are already existing but constantly redesigned and updated. In this way, the search engine spider "crawls" through each site analyzing pages, codes and links found, measuring the importance and relevance of these to certain keywords.

This means that each time the spider bot goes through your website, it searches for the keywords related to it. The more often these relevant terms appear, the higher the positioning in results that your website gets.

How does the indexation work?

Depending on the Meta tag used, whether it is "index" or "non-index," Spider Bot will crawl and index your web pages. If the "no-index" tag is inserted in any page, for example, it will not be classified.

This is how SEO experts recommend only allowing certain important parts of your website to be tracked, thus increasing your chances of improving the site's positioning. Pages of labels, categories or others with less importance do not need to be indexed and in fact, it will be better for the final positioning. 

At the same time, factors such as the domain name, internal and external links or the existence of duplicate content will affect the way in which the Spider Bot tracks and classifies your website. 

Domains that include the main keyword in their name get much more important and, therefore, better rankings. In addition, the more external links you have, the more reliable it appears before the criteria of web search engines.

Using Webmaster Tools, it is possible to check how search engines are viewing your site and identify what can be improved to increase performance and positioning. The more content you add, the more activity is detected by the Spider Bot Algorithm. So, it will check your site much more frequently, increasing the chances of getting higher positions in the results lists.

For example, Google bot uses an algorithm to measure the frequency of tracking in the entire web universe to which they can reach. The way it does the tracking is through links from its indexed pages. If you want Google to index your content faster, you must create quality content on a constant and regular basis.

Another example is that of the "Facebook external hit," which is a bot used by Facebook for collecting specific information, details, or images that are related to the content shared by different users of Facebook. For instance, "Facebook External Hit" retrieves this data when the Facebook user sends or provides a link.
